Archery History
The bow has a long history dating back to early man. The bow was used for hunting, self defense and to fight wars across all continents. The bow is a stringed projectile weapon designed to shoot arrows. It consists of a slender stave (the bow-stick) and a cord fastened to it at each end under a certain amount of tension. By drawing the string and the arrow back until the stave is bent, and then releasing the string, the impelling force of the bowstring shoots the arrow. Though it sounds easy, many bows require as much as hundreds of pounds of force to bend the bow sufficiently and then incredible marksmanship to make the arrow fly true.

UCOA Archery Program
Today, the bow is still used for hunting and in sporting events. The UCOA continues to support our bow shooters and through the years we have maintained a following of bow shooters who come out on the first Sunday of most months to sharpen their bow skills.  Be sure to check the calendar schedule for the days of the shoots.  Of all of the shooting events involving shotguns, rifles and pistols, archery offers a minimum investment to get started. Registration is from 9:00 am to noon. The cost is $9.00 per adult shooter and $3.00 for youth under the age of 16.  Our archery shoots are open to the public so you do not have to be an UCOA member to shoot. We set a challenging course of 30-3D targets. Contact Jeff Sines for additional information. 419-348-1855

Archery Targets
3-dimensional archery is the next best thing to actual hunting conditions. We have a large variety of animal targets to shoot  including bear, elk, turkey, cougar, alligator, fox, havilena, wild boar, badger antelope, fallow deer, wolf, coyote, ram and Russian boar. It is our desire to help archers of all abilities to enjoy the sport of archery to its fullest extent while enjoying the great outdoors.

We hope you will come and shoot with us as we have taken the archery program to a new level. If you would like to stay tuned up for hunting all year, then our 3-D targets are as real as it gets. Our archery shoot is open to the general public so get your friends together and make it a day for a great archery shoot. We also offer concessions, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, chips, soda or water, throughout the day so you don't have to shoot on an empty stomach.

If you're interested in becoming a UCOA member you will have access to the archery range, archery targets set-up throughout the woods and 2 tree stands in which to practice elevated shoots.

Because we use 3-D targets hunters of all ages can hone their shooting skills so to achieve a quick humane shot on any animal where the bow and arrow is the weapon of choice.
